Igor: the support I received from the International Study Centre

Students learn in a classroom on campus

Igor, one of our former students from Rwanda, shares his experience of studying at the International Study Centre in this blog. Here, he tells us about the important preparation steps he took ahead of his arrival in the UK, as well as the support that helped him through his studies at Huddersfield.

When I first thought about studying at the University of Huddersfield International Study Centre, I imagined it was going to be hard for me, especially since I started my studies online. At first, I felt very nervous about starting my International Foundation Year. However, things were different when I started.

When I chose to join the programme, I received support from the very start of my application. This began with my visa application, where support staff helped me to monitor my progress and all the requirements I needed to meet to get my visa.

After obtaining my visa, the next big step was to travel to the UK. I was guided through this process too — the Centre staff helped me to pick a suitable accommodation for me, and even helped me to book a taxi transfer from the airport to my accommodation.

Lastly, when I finally started studying my International Foundation Year, the tutors were very friendly and helpful through lots of activities and academic work — they helped me to be confident in engaging in online sessions and passing my course.

In conclusion, each step that I took through applying for and studying my pathway programme was supported by the responsive, helpful staff at the International Study Centre. I was not alone, always had help when I asked for it and could reach out to staff anytime.
