Careers and Employability

Develop your employability

Degree courses at the University of Huddersfield offer what you need to become a confident, employable graduate. With many courses including industry placements and specialist careers advisers for international students, you’ll develop real-world skills and build your CV.

Experienced careers advisers

The University has a team of careers advisers working across the University. You’ll find them on campus and from day one you’ll have access to one-to-one guidance, CV checking and interview techniques. You can also join workshops and events, covering everything from graduate recruitment, developing your CV, to how to develop your networks.

Industry placements

The University of Huddersfield is among the UK’s top providers of ‘sandwich’ courses, which are developed in conjunction with global employers and industry. This means you may have the chance to complete a 12-month paid work placement as part of your degree. This is a great way to build your CV, develop real-world skills and apply what you’ve learnt in University to the workplace.

Excellent career prospects

Career-focused degrees, many offering internships and work placements, will equip you with real world skills to prepare you for a career after graduation. All of our students have the opportunity to undertake professional work experience during their studies, with over 2,000 students completing work placements at British and international businesses every year.

Careers and Employability Service

CareerAhead

CareerAhead activities will focus on identifying your strengths and building confidence. With our support, you will develop a range of skills for success, such as teamwork, problem solving and communication. We will also help you to create a personal development plan for your time at university and beyond.

You'll also have the opportunity to build up work experience by taking up part-time employment or a work placement during your studies. Find out more about working rights as part your visa.

Your right to work in the UK

Your Student visa allows you to work up to 20 hours a week, so you can gain career skills alongside your studies. A requirement of your Student visa is a 100% attendance rate for your classes at the International Study Centre. By not attending all of your classes, you risk losing your Student visa and your right to study and work in the UK.

The main focus of your time in the UK should be your studies – so you can gain the skills needed for an international career.

Work after study

After graduating, you will have the skills needed to start your international career with opportunities available all over the world. In the UK, you can access the Graduate Immigration Route – a 2-year post-study work visa for international students graduating from UK universities. You can find out more information on this on our visa page.
