University of Huddersfield International Study Centre

International Foundation Year programmes

A two-semester pathway programme

The International Foundation Year will develop your academic knowledge and English language skills to prepare you for the first year of your chosen undergraduate degree. This is a two-semester foundation programme with a choice of four pathways.

Is the International Foundation Year right for you?

The International Foundation Year is perfect for international students who do not meet the academic qualifications to study the intensive International Year One programme, but who wish to progress to the first year of an undergraduate degree. It is tailored to students that are looking to improve their academic knowledge and English language skills to get the most out of their university studies.

What can you expect?

Teaching will take place through a mix of face-to-face and virtual teacher-led learning. Find out more about what you can expect when you join us on campus

You will cover core modules in all four pathways including English language and study skills aimed to give you the language and related academic skills to reach your full potential at university.

Alongside your core modules, you will also study subject-specific modules, which are related to your chosen programme and are significant for your academic development.

In just one year you will develop your English language, study skills and subject knowledge to prepare you for your degree.

Why join our November intake?

Join us in November and stay on track to progress to your degree at the same time as originally planned.

By taking our November intake you will benefit from five additional weeks of activities before the start of your academic studies at no additional cost.

Key highlights include:

  • Full enrichment programme - daily online enrichment classes.
  • Live tutor classes - 15 hours of live teaching per week.
  • Social activities - daily breakfast club during induction week and a programme of social events and activities to join every day.
  • Practical project skills - exciting 20+ hour project to apply skills in a real-life context, with tutor guidance.

  • All of this allows you to get a head start in applying skills in real-life projects, receiving support at settling in at university and in the UK and making friends by joining a series of social events. You will also be fully prepared to start your academic modules from January.

Due to the nature of the additional activities offered at the beginning of these November intakes, students will be expected to be in country and ready to start their studies on campus at the start of the programme.

Please note: the November start date is not available for Pre-Master's students.
