Entry requirements
To study a programme at the University of Huddersfield International Study Centre, you will need to meet certain conditions, called entry requirements.
These requirements consist of:
- English language – this is the required Academic IELTS for UKVI score (or equivalent) that shows language proficiency
- Academic qualifications – these requirements are shown by country
- Minimum age – this is how old you need to be at the start of the course
- Nationality – all our programmes are available to international and EU students.
The admission requirements for international students vary per course at the University of Huddersfield International Study Centre.
Find the entry requirements needed for your programme:
- Academic: Good high school graduation grades or equivalent academic study^ (see table below)
- English language: SELT (UKVI IELTS or Trinity Test) equivalent to IELTS 4.5 overall (min 4.0 in writing and no lower than 4.0 all other skills)*
- Age: 17+ (in the September or October of the academic year you wish to start at the International Study Centre). Must turn 18 before the start of your undergraduate degree
*To ensure that students are adequately prepared for the IFY Health & Human Science route, applicants should have studied Biology and two other relevant subjects such as Physics, Chemistry or Physical Education or Maths, at equivalent grade C + required for Health Science degrees.
For Engineering pathway, Physics is required for Engineering and relevant Science for other listed progression degrees.

International Year One
- Academic: One or more of the following:
- Excellent (senior) high school graduation grades
- Completed A Levels, IB or an internationally-recognised Foundation Year programme
- Completed the first year of an HND or Advanced Diploma
- In the first year of study on a relevant undergraduate degree
- Experience: Relevant work experience (for mature students only)
- English language: Academic IELTS for UKVI 5.5 (or equivalent)*
- Age: 17+
*If you do not need a Student visa, or are exempted in another way, we can accept equivalent proof of English.

- Recognised degree in related field (e.g. BSC Business Studies)
- Honours degree in any subject (e.g. BA International Relations)
- English language: Academic IELTS for UKVI score of 5.5 (with 5.5 in all subskills)*
- Age: 20+
*If you do not need a Student visa, or are exempted in another way, we can accept equivalent proof of English.
