About the University

Why University of Huddersfield?

The University of Huddersfield is a modern and innovative university, dedicated to helping students towards career success. Through career-focused degrees, excellent teaching and a supportive learning experience, students at Huddersfield find themselves equipped with the skills and confidence for personal and professional success.

Gold-rated university

Huddersfield has been awarded Gold by the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF). Developed by the Department for Education in England, the TEF assess university quality by looking at teaching excellence, learning environment and student outcomes.

Excellent career prospects

Career-focused degrees, many offering internships and work placements, will equip you with real world skills to prepare you for a career after graduation. Huddersfield is one of the top ten providers of work placement courses in the UK (Higher Education Statistics Agency, 2013/14), with over 2,000 students completing work placements at British and international businesses every year. The University also has two specialist advisers for international students as part of its Careers and Employability Service and was awarded a QS 5 Star rating for Employability in 2015.

Professional teachers

All academic staff at the University are professional teachers, with every member being a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (a national organisation that marks Britain’s best lecturers). You’ll be taught by teachers who are experts in their fields, and there are over 100 professors with leading research and academic publications here.

A top student experience

The University is fifth in the world for best student experience, as voted for by international students in the International Student Barometer in 2015. Unlike some larger cities, Huddersfield offers a relatively low cost of living, giving you more for your money. This means it’s easier to enjoy all that Huddersfield, the University and the surrounding areas have to offer.

With a thriving campus community, you’ll find 120 nationalities represented at the University and more than 100 student-run clubs for you to join. There’s something for every interest, ranging from sports and music to academic, politics and religion. And if you think something’s missing, you can always create your own.

Develop your potential

The International Learning Support Programme is a specialist team helping international students adapt to studying in the UK and life in Huddersfield. Through their dedicated support, guidance and resources, you can achieve the best possible degrees and future success.

A Huddersfield ISC student

"The University has great facilities, especially for my course. Having hands on experience in workshops and visiting manufacturing facilities maximises the thrill and experience. It makes me feel confident and prepared to start my career after graduating."
