International Foundation Year

To study the International Foundation Year you need to meet the following requirements.

  • Academic: Good high school graduation grades or equivalent academic study (see table below)
  • English language: Academic IELTS for UKVI 4.5 (minimum 4.0 in writing)*
  • Age: 17+ (in the September or October of the academic year you wish to start at the International Study Centre)

Bahrain Successful completion of Tawjahiya Secondary School Leaving Certificate with an average grade of 60% in relevant subjects
Bangladesh Successful completion of High Secondary Certificate (50%) or SSC (60%). Pass required for 4 or more relevant subjects. 50% minimum required for relevant subjects.
China (Mainland) Successful completion of Senior High 2 at an average grade of 65% with a minimum of 4 academic subjects pass or above or Senior High 3 at an average of 60% or above
China (Hong Kong) Successful completion of Form 5 or HKDSE with minimum grades 211 in relevant subjects. There is no Maths requirement for the Creative Arts/Humanities routes
China (Macau) Successful completion of form 5 or Senior Middle 2 with average grade 60-65% in relevant subjects
Ghana Successful completion of West African School Certificate or Senior School Certificate - grades 1 - 8 (A - E) in 4 or more subjects
India Successful completion of Foundation/UG cert at 40% or above at Year 12, 55% at year 11, 65% at Year 10 (50% minimum required for relevant subjects)
Indonesia Successful completion of SMU 3 with average grade of 6.0 (4 relevant subjects required)
Iran Successful completion of High School Diploma (3 years). Passes in 4 or more relevant subjects
Japan Successful completion of High School Leaving Certificate (Kotogakko). Passee at 2.0 GPA
Jordan Successful completion of High School Certificate (Tawjihi) with 50% in 4 or more relevant subjects
Kazakhstan Successful completion of ATTESTAT/Certificate of Secondary Education with passes in 4 or more subjects
Korea Korean High school graduation equivalency exam - 60%+ including relevant subjects
Kuwait Successful completion of Shahadat-al-thanawia-al-a'ama General Secondary School Leaving Certificate with 60% in 4 or more relevant subjects
Libya Successful completion of Tawjihiyya School Leaving Certificate with 60% in 4 or more relevant subjects
Mexico Successful completion of Bachillerato with average grade of 65% or above
Nigeria Successful completion of West African School Certificate (WAEC) or Senior School Certificate with grades 1-8 in 4 or more relevant subjects
Oman Successful completion of Tawjihiyya School Leaving Certificate with 60% in 4 or more relevant subjects
Pakistan Successful completion of High Secondary Certificate (40%) or SSC (60%), Higher Education Certificate 50%
Qatar Successful completion of Thanawaya Aam Qatari with average grade 60%
Russia Successful completion of Year 11/Certificate of Secondary Education with passes in 4 or more subjects
Saudi Arabia Successful completion of Tawjihiyya School Leaving Certificate with 60% in 4 or more relevant subjects
Sri Lanka 4 x O-levels
Taiwan Successful completion of Senior High 2 at an average grade of 60% or Senior High 3 at an average of 55% or above
Thailand Successful completion of Mathayom Suska 6 with GPA of 2.0 in 6 relevant subjects
Turkey Successful completion of Devlet Lise Diploması (High School Completion) - 50% overall including relevant subjects
UAE Successful completion of Tawjihiyya School Leaving Certificate with 60% in 4 or more relevant subjects
Ukraine Successful completion of ATTESTAT/Certificate of Secondary Education with a GPA of 4.5
Vietnam Successful completion of Year 12 with a GPA of 6.0
The Diploma of the International Baccalaureate (IB Diploma) and the Diploma Programme Course (IB Certificate), or A/AS levels 20 / 40 UCAS points
IGCSE 4 passes at A-C in relevant subjects

*The English language entry requirements stated are for information regarding entry to the course. If you do not need a Tier 4 visa, or are exempted in another way, we can accept equivalent proof of English.
