Then & now: a graduate’s story

Yasmin successful graduate from University of Huddersfield

Yasmeen arrived in the UK from Bahrain in 2012 to study the International Foundation Year in Business, Law and Social Studies at the University of Huddersfield International Study Centre. Now she wears a proud smile and a graduation gown. This summer, Yasmeen graduated with a BA (Hons) in Advertising and Marketing Communications from the University of Huddersfield.

Receiving an international education provides you the opportunity to try new things and experience a new culture, making you more adaptable, confident and independent. Yasmeen had never left home before coming to study at the International Study Centre. Today, her horizon has expanded so much that the unknown doesn’t scare her: “I am thinking about trying to open my own business. It’s going to be difficult but I’m up for the challenge.” Your experience as an international student will make you a keen learner, ready to achieve more.

Your education is more than just academic achievements. One of the lessons Yasmeen learned as an international student was to get involved and try many different activities, even if she thought she wouldn’t like them. She says about the experience, “In the end when you graduate even if you are doing a certain degree, you will also know what you are good at.”

Between your arrival, progression and graduation, you will grow into a different person. Yasmeen remembers being stressed when she started, and now she is confident in her knowledge and her skills. She is positive that whatever happens, she will succeed.

The lessons you learn in independence and responsibility during international study will make you just as confident and prepared to succeed. The International Study Centre will help you get to where you want to be.
